Facebook’s Oculus Quest 2 Recalling May Impact its Stock Prices
As per the latest reports, Facebook had made an announcement in regards to its headsets product last Tuesday, July 27, 2021. The announcement from Facebook was not a promising or a good one. Instead, it was an alarming one pertaining to the Oculus Quest 2 headsets.
The particular headsets are best known for their virtual reality capabilities. The tech giant has announced that until further notice, it is pausing the manufacturing of the sales for the particular product. Furthermore, the firm has announced that it is recalling all the units for the Oculus Quest 2 headsets.
The firm has announced that there are a total of 4 million units for the Oculus Quest 2 headsets that Facebook is recalling. The reports reveal that in order to carry out this difficult and lengthy task, Facebook has acquired the help and support of the government.
As per reports, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) for the United States will be accompanying Facebook in the recall process for the headsets.
Facebook has announced that it is a voluntary act by its teams that they are proceeding with the recalling of the facial interfaces that contain removable foam on the devices.
This particular piece is known for sitting around the nose and eyes of the users. The use of the component is to provide a cushioning between the user’s face and the headset.
Facebook had to go for the recall after a large number of Oculus Quest 2 users complained about facing the same problem. The users reported that because of the headsets, they ended up feeling irritated on their skin. Some of these users even had to visit the hospital for medical attention.
The data confirms that over 5,000 complaints had been submitted by the users complaining about irritation. As for users requiring medical attention, there were around 45 users reporting the same. This information was collected and highlighted by the CPSC.
The CPSC also revealed that the irritations the users faced and experienced included hives, itching, burning, swelling, and rashes.
According to the CPSC, it is one of the rarest cases where it witnessed Facebook recalling its products. The CPSC has reported that it has happened for the first time that Facebook had to proceed with the recall.
Facebook is mainly known for its technology and advancements in the software sector. However, Facebook has shown great interest in virtual reality technology and has been popularizing it for a while. The Oculus headsets are the very proof of that ambition and the company has been doing really well with the headsets.
While the company has acted fast in recalling the headsets with the problem, the investors and stakeholders would be quick to react around it. This is the reason why it is expected that Facebook may end up facing a loss in stock prices due to the recall.
