Facebook’s News Feed Will Now Have Less Political Content
Even with so much going on, Facebook continues to make progress and developments the same way as it has been. The company has been able to do it despite all the scrutiny and hard time it got to receive from the regulators. Facebook faced a hard time from the public and regulators over its acquisitions of other potentially competitive platforms.
Ever since the elections that resulted in Donald Trump becoming the president, Facebook has even faced a lot of a hard time even from the congress and opposing parties of the United States.
In many instances, the Facebook platform has been alleged of selling information of U.S. citizens over to Russia. Apart from this, the platform has also been held responsible for spreading false information and lies around the presidential elections in the United States.
Even after so much that the company has gone through for almost half a decade, it still continues to make huge profits and revenues. It was on January 27, 2021, when Facebook announced the revenue it generated in the fourth quarter of the year 2020. It announced that in the last three months of 2020, Facebook managed to generate $11.2 billion in profits.
Facebook revealed that the revenue it generated in the fourth quarter of 2020 was 50% more than what it had generated from the same period in 2019. The platform also revealed that its revenue rose all the way up to 33% that is roughly around $28 billion for the particular quarter. By posting its revenue, Facebook has proven that despite the pandemic, it has generated such a high amount of revenue. It revealed that its core revenue driver is none other than advertisements.
Despite all the progress Facebook has made since its launch, yet it has realized what it needs to do to stay out of trouble. It was just recently when the CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg spoke with the analysts regarding the company’s performance.
During the conference call, Zuckerberg stated that despite all the success, the company is now taking a step to ensure it minimizes the chance of being highlighted by the congress again.
He stated that Facebook has always been a neutral platform where people had the freedom of sharing their thoughts and opinions. Therefore, Facebook is planning to reduce the amount of political content that it used to have through its News Feed.
Zuckerberg stated that the majority of the feedback and remarks the users are providing in regards to politics is that they do not want politics. Therefore, Facebook has decided that it will be reducing the amount of political content it currently posts through its News Feed feature.
The same phenomenon was seen back in November 2020 during the Presidential Elections. Facebook revealed that it had stopped recommending political groups to the users during that period.
